I'm having a similar issue. I've got a 65 Cutlass 442 with a 68 455 engine.
The prior owner install a Holley Street Dominator intake with a Demon carb. This leaves me with very little room for an air cleaner. I am going to replace this induction system with a Edelbrock 2151 intake and Fitech fuel injection system. Has anyone used the Chevy L88 drop base air cleaner with success? I don't want to buy it and then dam it dose not fit.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the site. I moved your post to its own thread as your problem is really not similar to clearing an OAI hood.
This repro Chevy drop base is the lowest I was able to find to clear a 67 hood. Its a quality piece: http://www.ss396.com/chevelle/ATE-3907.html
what i can say is: in 65 / 455 with the correct height motor mounts the Performer or the torker Intake with the EDE Carb will fit with a drop base carb under the hood ...so compare the intake and carb height
