455 with a Small Block Intake

Well when I bought my F85, the seller gave me loads of extra parts. One of the parts he gave me was an Edelbrock intake for the 330. So I started doing some research and later found out that small blocks and big blocks have a lot of interchangeable parts. So now I got this intake and buying a 455. Is there anyway of putting this Edelbrock on to save me a few hundred dollars? Thanks in advance

Not even close. The deck height is higher which speads the heads apart. Sell the one to have to offset some cost.

Yeah, spend a couple of hundred dollars having custom spacers machined.

455 manifold

I agree, lots of good correct manifolds for the 455. Sell the other one.

Ok thanks for the help.

Another question I have. I am buying a old boat that has a rebuilt 455 in it. Now the boat is a jet boat, is there any difference in the crankshaft from a car motor or is there any differences from a Olds 455 marine motor and an Olds 455 for a car? I am asking cause I don't know anything about boats/jet boats or anything of the sort. I actually want to scrap the boat and take the motor.

I don't believe there are any differences in the Olds motors that were put in boats. Except externals like carburetor, exhaust manifolds, distributor, etc.

If its now in a boat you will get a flywheel thats never had a clutch touch it and a crank drilled for a stick transmission. Easy to use in a conversion to a four of five speed stick in you car.

Couple of other things
1. You can sell the exhaust manifolds to boat guys and get part of your money back
2. Same goes for the jet drive
3. You will most likley have to install a water pump
4. You will most likley have to change out the oil pan and pickup tube for the oil pump as the boats used a flat bottom pan that won't work in your car.
5. Most boat engines have Ka heads which are good heads.

Ok last question until I think of another one!

I have a pair of high compression heads (385101) for a 330. I am looking to make a racing motor. Could I possibly use these heads on a 455? What would I have too do to be able to use them on it.

The 330 heads will physically bolt to the 455. The 330 heads have smaller ports, smaller valves, and smaller chambers than those on BBO heads. The smaller valves and ports will hurt flow. The smaller chambers will result in a very high compression ratio. Not a good idea.

That and I think the BBO intake runners will extend over the material on the SBO heads and wouldn't seal.

Doubtful it's a problem especially being a single engine boat but w/ any marine engine always make sure it's not a reverse rotation unit!.
