Well I guess that all depends on how high you plan on revving it. I didn't do any mods to the 455 I built in 1993 and it lived under my VERY heavy foot for the 20,000 miles I put on it before I sold it.
It is recommended to smooth out the drain back holes in the lifter valley and to possibly install oil restrictors to help keep oil in the bottom end. Now like I said I had no issues and I know of quite a few guys that don't install the restictors so that's your call. But I agree that cleaning up the oil drain backs is a good idea and will be doing that on my next build (whenever that happens).

I enlarge the oil holes in the main brgs to match the holes in the block.
I redrill the cam brgs to .045 to restrict the oil.
I drill and tap the oil holes in the lifter bores to .045 to keep more oil at the crank.
I grind and smooth out the oil passage on the rear main, for better flow.
On the oil pump, I move the retainer pin for the pressure spring over .300, I drill a new hole and install pin. Gives me 70 lbs cold 50 hot.
This combo has been in the car for 9 years so far, and I have raced it every year.

X2. This is a good plan.
