455 Hydraulic Roller Tappet Noise - Please Help
I have a 455 engine that was built a couple of years ago, but after pulling my frame to paint it and add aftermarket front & rear suspension, then reassembly, the engine only has about 100 miles on it. I have developed a top end lifter / rocker arm type noise. The engine specs are as follows:
1970 455 bored .030, balanced Olds forged crankshaft w/ Eagle connecting rods, Icon 10.5-1 forged pistons, Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft XR290HR w/ Comp Cams roller tappets, correct length pushrods, Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads (out of the box) w/ upgraded valve springs for hydraulic roller cam, Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rocker arms, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold, Mallory electric fuel pump, Holley 850 carb, Aftermarket 2.5" W/Z exhaust manifolds.
I adjusted the rocker arms 1/2 turns, (3) different times to no avail. Comp Cams warrantied the tappets and replaced them with a newer design. I have adjusted the new ones 1/2, 3/4 & 1 full turn, again to no avail.....
It sounds like I have a couple noisy lifters on each side of the engine. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Bob

Yes ditch the Comp lifters, they suck. Check around, you'll find lots of people have had trouble with both Pontiac and Olds roller lifters from Comp.

Howards, Lunati or Erson. All of those are made by Morel. I sell them for $365.00 to your door but you're welcome to look around as well.
Also make sure you don't have any retainer to rocker or rocker to pushrod interference.
