455 Engine Mount Woes

455 Engine Mount Woes
Ok guys, I am at a loss.
Background: My car came with a 400 according to the vin. When I bought it, it had a 455 in it. I pulled the 455 with engine mounts and gave it to a friend for his car. I have restored my frame with the old frame mounts. I went and bought replacement 455 engine mounts. Now when I try and put them together, the holes don't line up and the engine won't lower far enough. My buddy's Cutlass S received my old 455 with the attached old engine mounts. His frame pads (mounts) look like mine. His Cutlass S came with a 350 originally.
Attached are pictures to support my claims from the past and present. Please help me, I need to move this car across the country in 5 days...and its body needs to be put on before I leave.

Hi Jolly
Well, in 1968 both the 350 and 400 used the same metal pad or perch bolted to the frame crossmember. So that's not the problem. Do you have the box with the part number for the rubber mounts you purchased? Could the parts store sold you the wrong ones?
Here's a link to Joe P's motor mount thread.

CRAP! I think I have 455 Engine mounts and 350/400 frame mounts. So the old engine mounts must have been 350/400 and just bolted up to the 455. So do I get new motor mounts or frame mounts?! I figure the frame mount is what's proper to replace right?

Nope. Go back and check Joe's thread. It looks like you have the correct metal pads/mounts so keep them. But go back to the parts store and make sure you get the correct rubber mount to bolt to the engine. As I read it you need the Anchor or Pioneer brand part number 2261 Here's the key part of Joe's thread:
"A-body, G-body
1964-1968 frame mounts (all) - use P/N 2261 motor mounts
1969-1972 SBO frame mounts - use P/N 2261 motor mounts
1969-1972 BBO frame mounts - use P/N 2328 motor mounts
1973-1988 frame mounts (all) - use P/N 2328 motor mounts"
So with the steel pads you have 2261 is correct for 330-455 in that engine compartment.

But on Fusick's website, I am led to believe there were no 455 engine mounts in 1968. But there are frame mounts (perches) for 455's for 1968 that have the same notch that would fit my 455 motor mounts, which are 2328's. Is that not correct? So should I just get the 1968 400 motor mounts or go with 1969 455 engine and motor mounts?

I think highly of Fusicks, but on this their wrong. The 400 and 455 blocks are externally the same. So the same rubber motor mount would work on both. If you get the 2261's as Joe said I think it will work for you and be the quickest/simplest way through this problem. It also sounds like you could get the rubber mounts at your local auto part store for less than the specialty Olds dealer. And you be turning wrenches tomorrow instead of waiting for them being shipped! John

Wow, is it time for the monthly motor mount question again?
One more time: EVERYBODY gets Olds motor mounts wrong.
Please read this thread, then buy 2261 mounts. Do NOT ask for "455" motor mounts, you will get the wrong ones. 2261 is even correct for the 455 in a 1968 H/O.

Guys, I got the 2261's on order! Thanks again. Sorry about the "monthly" question :/ I researched everything I could before I ordered to include this forum but I missed the link 2Blu posted, somehow. Autozone doesn't even have an application listed for the 2261! I had to tell them to "shut up and order it, I got guys I trust telling me to" haha. Thanks again! Hope to have it installed tomorrow.

Just a couple of little things to look out for. The Chinesium motor mounts you get today sometimes have the holes drilled slightly off. Test fit them to the block and be sure the two bolt holes line up with the block holes. I've had to elongate one that was mis-drilled. Also, leave the mount-to-block bolts a little loose until you get the mount-to-frame pad bolts inserted. This often makes the bolts go in a lot more easily.

Well, an update! The #2261's worked as advertised! Slipped right into place! I am very glad I came to you guys for help! Now onto my next problem...getting the transmission crossmember and my new 700R4 to play nice. May have to relief cut the crossmember to make clearance for the pan...
With T-minus 4 days til my cross country move, this is very daunting...
