455 engine kit and...

Does anyone have experience with the Maddog Racing's/Fast Engine Parts TRW forged 9.5:1 piston/engine rebuild kit..the kit seems like good value for $'ss, but have no idea on quality.
Also was wondering what other year steering boxes fit 70 cutlass..?
Parts are not easy to find in Australia, so am relying on I'net and your informative/helpful forum.
Thanx in anticipation.

Mad dog

I recently purchased a 455 rebuild kit. I looked at Mad Dog also and even though it was a good price I decided to go with Summit Racing. The kit was about the same and I figured it would be easier to deal with returning something to Summit than a company like Mad dog that I was not familiar with.

I think those TRW pistons are pretty much a standard component in rebuild kits that don't go over the top. If they are the same part number I am familiar with (L2323F I think) and used in a recent rebuild they aren't bad. Builders with lots of experience do comment they are a little on the heavy side for forged though. But probably better than originals if you have to replace the originals anyway.

I also used the TRW L2323F pistons. They are a good "run of the mill" forged piston. Not too pricey, but not too spectacular either.

Thanx for the responses.
This is not going to be a race motor, just mild street, with some porting, a Ed. Performer and cam approxomating @ 50 mid 210's/220's and just sub 500's...and not sure of carb. yet...650-750..?
Stall about 2600. And std ex. manifold. Room with st. box on rhs severely restricts use of useful headers.
I guess the question is now ...are the Maddog TRW's genuine or Asian clones.....
Which other years use the same st. box as 1970....? The one out of this car is too damaged to be rebuilt, so need another....

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Maddog. I guess you could call them and ask if the pistons they sell with their kit are TRWs or clones.

I would go with summit, reliable company. if you have a problem they will resolve it. They have been in business for years and have a good reputation and that is worth something. Means even more when your are dealing long distance. good luck

I agree...go with summit...stay away from the Ebay "Specials". A lot of them are real special

This I can attest to. Summit, got me a Milodon oil pan when 3 Morosos I had all leaked. I was on the phone with someone from Moroso or Summit about every day those couple of weeks.

I have never ordered from Jegs before but they are a good supplier too.
