I am not an expert engine builder but from my experience, an engine build is an entire package or you are tossing money away. I would not throw that much money into a top end without rebuilding the bottom to match. Trying to add power to a 50+ year old bottom end is not a good idea in my opinion.

More details on your build/goals would help. Others will opine, but I've heard that the cam in that kit is an old style grind. You can do better than that.

Also get something besides the Edelbrock carb. Either a Street Demon 750 or Quickfuel 750+ vacuum secondary.

My vote would be keep your existing carb, install a manifold, and use a more modern camshaft. The edelbrock cams are very outdated. Unless they have modified their cam grinds profile to keep up with the airflow of their heads, your going to be disappointed. Talk to Mark about a custom cam.

if the engine is sound (good compression, good oil pressure, and acceptable leak down) bolting on some go fast stuff won’t hurt anything. If the engine is tired, why bother?
