455

I am in need of a 455 or 403 to drop into my 1980 Cutlass Supreme Brougham, it currently has a 260 in it, is there anyone that knows where I can get either for a reasonable price?? Thanks

I would like as close to one HP per cid as possible, but in reality, I just want a street and strip car, this will be my first car, and I've been searching for one for a while

Geez...man you're gonna be hard pressed to find a bare block for half of that. Then to have it built, even with the bare machine work...I think you need to reconsider changing your engine.

Well, what is a good price range to look at? I'm open for adjusting the amount, just tell my where I can get the engine haha, as long as it's not like performance unlimited prices, they make great engines, but they cost the same amount as a new car

Oh ya, I'm definitely changing it out, the engine and tranny are coming out of the car as one and neither one is going back in

80Cutlass, I have a 455 block with no heads or intake, but if you wanna fix it up your not gonna need that stuff anyway. It is at my Dads in Baton Rouge. I does have an oil pan, albeit caved in, and the crank and all is still in it.

I am starting a new job in Houston on Monday but will not have the engine with me. I do plan on driving to BTR just about every weekend though, so I am sure we can work something out.

If you want it, it is yours for $400 and I will get it to Houston for you.. I DO NOT know the history of this motor. I got it in a package deal with a complete, running engine. If that price is out of line, let me know as I have never sold an engine before!

80Cutlass, after the price of the engine...you should expect to spend about $4K - $5K to build it right. If you spend any less you won't be driving it long. I have done budget builds with $1000 machine work + parts but they still come out to about $2,000 - $2,500 engines.

The one I am putting in my convertible is a budget build and so far I think I've got $2500 in it...and I only bought pistons, rocker arms, cam, lifters, and pushrods...I had everything else. Add another $500 for exhaust...you see what I mean? We'll be at the Niftee Fifties in Spring tonight if you wanna meet us out there. We can talk more in person.

An alternative to your 260 is the 350 I just pulled out of my '72 convertible. It is complete, less valve covers and starter motor...I have the trans as well. It was all just pulled 2 days ago and drove here from Austin the day before being yanked. I'll sell it cheap, I just need to get it out of my garage.

Your best bet for limited money is to find a running ratty or smashed car with and engine/transmission. Even a 350 with a 4 barrel and dual exhaust will perform decent.

I just pulled a 455/TH400 from a running but ratty '98 I bought for $500. Got more than that for the leftover body shell.
