425 rod and bearing

425 rod and bearing

Can someone tell if the purpose of this oil passage and if it necessary? Squirt hole goes thru across parting line. The new bearings dont have the cut out like originals. Thanks.

The oil spit hole lubricates the cam lobes.

guess ill be breaking out the wizz wheel to notch new bearings

Not sure I'd go that far. Olds stopped using the spit holes at some point.

Like the others said Olds and Pontiac both had them but did away with them in later years. For what its worth I always heard that they were to lube the cylinder walls not the camshaft. Dont know if that is true or not.
