394 engine rebuild
#2
Depends on who is doing the build, to pay someone for machine work, parts and labor I would say 3500. A lot depends too on what new parts are needed. If you are just dropping off the car and picking it up with a turn key ending look for 5,000.00

The rebuild depends...
My experience with Olds 455 (which are cheaper to build than a 394) is a good rebuild is between $5-6K. That does not include the R&R from the car.
That is with a new cam/lifters, pistons/rings, cam bearings, main/rod bearings, water pump, oil pump, freeze plugs, rod bolts, gaskets, tune up.
Bore/hone, grind crank, resize rods, deck block, full valve job, resurface heads, magnaflux, hot tank, etc.
The costs add up fast.
