I'm not sure if I'm in the right Forum here with my 303 but I'll ask anyway
I am rebuilding my Motor at the moment and I want to machine down the cylinder heads.
Now my question: Can you tell me how much can I maximum machine them down to not brake them?

What are you trying to achieve, higher compression, remove rust or corrosion, warped head ? First generation Oldsmobile heads are quite thick but every head has it limits and is a individual to it self. Keep in mind that when you change head dimensions radically valve geometry also changes and push rods or rocker stems will need to be adjusted accordingly if a large bite is taken off..... Tedd

Thanks for your fast reply.
I want to get the area straight and flat to have to heads sit clean on the block.
If I can achieve a Little more power with higher comporession it would be nice.
I don't want to change anything radically, just a little bit.

You should have no problem by having your machine shop just clean up the heads in a normal way. Shaving the heads by itself won't give you a lot more power, incorporated in a complete build it would help but you will need deep pockets to make a racer out of a 303, it can be done....
