1972 Big Block

I have a question. I found a 1972 455 with "C" heads (not sure how much work done to the heads, supposedley alot), Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 750 carb, ceramic headers, windage tray in pan, with other misc. goodies. The guy says it should dyno at 450hp or better. He is asking $5000.00 for the works plus the exhaust all the way to the back. I am thinking pretty good deal since I heard that rebuilding a olds is extremely excpensinve.
Any input on the price of this one verses the cost rebuilding one myself to achieve 450 hp?

Tell him to put it on a dyno, and provide you with documentation. You should be able to pull 450 hp out of a 455 for a lot less than that,

There's a good amount of hardware there,to only achieve 450hp,UNLESS that is rear wheel HP figures.Get more info about the engine. How long ago it was built, all the parts installed, etc.

Has the engine ever been run? I'm always skeptical of expensive motors that have never been installed or fired and are being sold at a loss.

My 425 made 454 HP for about half that.
