1972 455 (4bbl) - fuel pump inlet & return?

I bought my '72 Olds 98 with 455 4-bbl a few months ago. Much "fixing" has been done, and I'm getting ready to install & connect my new gas tank. I already ran new fuel lines from the front to the back, matching the lines that were already there. NOTE: When I got the car, there were 2 rubber fuel lines connected to the fuel pump and both lines were about 3 feet long that sat in a little 1-gallon portable gas tank sitting up by the passenger headlight, next to radiator.

I can't tell which is the Inlet side of the fuel pump and which is the return. I figure I can pull off the rubber hoses - which I trimmed down to about 4 inches to slide over the ends of my new metal fuel line(s).... But just thought I'd ask. I checked the CSM and didn't find where it specified. I assumed, that one rubber fuel line would have larger diameter than other, but I think the guy I bought it from just slapped the same diameter hose on both the inlet and outlet(return) ports of the pump.

And I'm still an idiot. Just took off both hoses to reveal the answer. Sorry y'all. I shoulda been more thorough.

The 3/8" hose is inlet from the tank to the pump. The 1/4" line is the return from the pump to the tank.

You might not have room there, but if you can insert a fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump, it may keep your engine running better.

Also put enough slack (length) in the rubber hoses to allow them to move a little, but not so much that they interfere with the belts.
