[I'm new] I have a lovely 1968 455 98 convert I've been wanting to sell. It has a single exhaust with the LH manifold joined to the RH. There's a big leak where the RH joins the exhaust pipe. Looks like the 'bell' at the end of the manifold is rusted away.
Anyone know a possible 'fix' short of another manifold?
And/or: Where might I find a RH replacement (I checked Thompson, they don't have this I gather)
Last, is there a chance I could get a decent price as is? (new paint, new upholstery, good top and engine, no body rust.)

Arnie,
post some pictures of the car in the for sale forum and see if there is any interest. You just never know till you try it. As for the exhaust problem, I don't think it would make THAT much difference, besides, you would end up just having to ask a little more to get the money out of the repairs you made, which is probably replacement as you indicated.

Are you sure it is the manifold that is rusted? I know as far back as 64 Olds used a small spacer on the driver's side manifold that housed a small bi-metalic spring which operated a shut-off valve. This assembly rusted pretty bad on my car and I took it out.

My problem is only with the RH manifold where it joins the single exhaust pipe, The mounting end of the manifold is rusted so badly that it can't seal against the exhaust pipe flanges.

DOH! Sorry about that, I wasn't thinking.

You know, you might be able to have the manifold welded and repaired. Oldsguy and I had a welding shop modify a single exhaust manifold to accommodate duals. The shop did quite a bit of welding on that thing. I'm sure a good welder could repair your manifold. Then again, you have to justify the repair if your just going to sell the car.

I think you are right that it is probably repairable. It may be wiser to weld a manifold that can be repaired than to trash it. These things are obviously scarce. We need not make them rare.

[Though about `69, I saw a shop in Texas welding a broken VW crank -- as in 2 pieces -- in a sandbox. VW cranks then were about $10. Now, they may cost you a dollar?]

I believe your pass side exhaust manifold has a large letter "T" cast into it. If that's correct I've got a couple of them in the garage, $25 plus shipping from Medford Oregon. I can supply photos if that would help. John

I need to inspect mine, but from another site I've just seen that T is the descriptor for the 98 OLDS single exhaust.
It will be great to find a useable manifold.
