Odometer 2001 Aurora
Considering buying an 01 whose odometer isn't lit. I have two questions.
1. Is DIY possible on this? Is there perhaps a procedure on the forums, or somewhere else online?
2. If I can't DIY, about how much should it cost at a shop?

The display is dead......no repair is possible. At this point it's debatable wether it can even BE fixed. Needed parts are surely discontinued 
MAYBE you could find a used one.......but that's a long shot.
