Slow and painful slide show. Where to begin? It may have started out as a 69 442
with the 400 G block and C heads. Breather, console, bumpers, trunk lid, door panels,
others will chime in. The paint looks ok though, and they got stripes on the headrests...
I missed the out side side view mirrors and wasn't going to go back through it.

There are members here with true 69 H/O's if you want to check out Real ones.

Agree with tru-blue. Without VIN and Trim tag data, no way to tell for sure. Looking at the photos it appears to be a clone. To add to the list has the wrong wheels, wrong heads, 72 up block, painted bumpers, no rally pack or tic tock tac, steering wheel, valve covers and intake.

Well, as you and I know..as cars change hands they wind up with different parts. I was looking for some detail pointing toward it being real. Not that it wasn't painful for me to watch also. Apparently someone with some extreme control problems had done the engine paint. And the rust bubbles looked amazing.

I just figured I'd cover all the bases in my search for Demmer #355. If that means getting laughed at for considering that someone could have rebuilt a wreck or a car someone ditched in a pond, then so be it.

Probably a clone...

No ones laughing, well, chuckling maybe. I applaud you for trying to find Mr. 355 whoever they might be. At the same time it's Christmas time, and you and Tim could give each other gifts. Who knows, it may have been scrapped by now. I have seen a few over the net that have been scrapped, and are long gone.

No laughing here either. Just trying to answer whether it's real or not, and justify my opinion.

Tim, I was thinking of your offer to buy the 69 HO parts he has, that's all.
There's no way the 69 Hurst looking car he posted is real, IMOP.

I know...it isn't very easy on this search. I have people telling my via PM to hang onto what I have because they think it is awesome. I have some helping me to find the car it goes to, without asking for anything. Some people that are interested in the transmission and/or shifter...and some who think I'm probably out of my mind watching YouTube videos and browsing the comments sections, searching Google for "1969 Hurst Olds" and all of its variations, looking at past auction results (eBay, BJ, Mecum, etc.) Doing the CL hunt... But if this car is out there, I just want to feel that I did the best job I could to find it. It is stressing me out a little really...but I know I'm doing the right thing and I won't have any regrets when the time comes to end the search, regardless of how the search ends.

I didn't think you were really laughing at me. But I do know some probably think I'm nuts for even trying to find this car. The reality is that I don't care about this transmission because it wasn't original to the car. So to me, a normal TH400 is the same as the OH that's in it. However, I'm still hoping for that needle in a haystack. Or that gold coin in the penny jar. Wait a second, maybe I am nuts...

I'm Interested in the entire trans/shifter set up.
You have a pm in regards to a 70 OW.
Thanks

Sam

Just an interesting sidenote: Kurt Karch sent me these docs showing the transmission is definitely H/O.

I have a friend in Lubbock, Tx that had a 69 H/O long ago. I doubt he was the original owner. No idea where it came from, local or else where. He sold it to someone, who in turn wrapped it around a telephone pole. Sad story, I wonder how many ended up this way or scraped, or rusted back to the earth.

Well, Kurt, the guy who sent me the Hurst documentation, says that over 400 surviving H/Os have found him over the years...so I'd say that's a much higher than average rate of survival.

Too bad about that car. I tried searching car-part.com, but they don't even have a separate category for that so you can never track any H/O down there.

There was a nice resto story in this past Aprils' Hemmings on a '69 H/O(it made the finals list for their musclecar of the year). The guy bought it back in '83 as non-running project car, wrong seized up motor, wrong trans, missing wheels etc. It was the #89 car.He collected parts for it over the years & finally in 2000 he started to restore it. He wanted to find a more correct drivetrain for it,searching the internet & classifieds for years,he ended up finding a real, complete 455/400 combo that came out of H/O #492,that was in a roll-over wreck back in '71. It was in of all cars a '50 88 4dr that some guy hot-rodded back in the '70s!! It does make you wonder how many of these awesome cars ended up totaled out in junk yards.

Thanks for sharing that. It was interesting to read. I've been in contact now with Karl too, so I've got some pretty big shots in the H/O community helping me with the search. Thanks to them for sharing tips and info they have on helping me find this H/O.

Here is where I now stand on the 69 trans and dual gate: After multiple members here have reached out to me via PM, basically saying to hang onto this...and after my wife stepped in and recently said she didn't like the idea of me getting rid of the OH trans/shifter...I'm pulling it from consideration for selling/trade, unless I find the OW that matches my car.

I do appreciate everyone here and their help, however...I've been enlightened that once I get rid of this thing, then if I do come across the original W30 trans in that H/O someday, then I could be giving up my chance at getting the W30 trans back...and that would just be terrible. Or they could twist my arm and make me pay a premium for it since I don't have their part but I instead sold it or traded it and now have nothing to offer their H/O.

So I plan on pulling it from the car, finding a nice warm spot in the garage somewhere for it, and putting in a rebuilt TH400 to get this thing going.

Should I again decide to sell/trade it at some point, I will reach out the the members here in the order that they have posted interest.

I'm sorry to disappoint those with interest, but also I need to rely on the experience of those senior members here who have let me know that they would never get rid of this, unless it was to get the trans that matches the W30. Thanks for those PMs and emails.

No worries. Best of luck tracking down the original trans for your ride. If circumstances change you know where to find me. In the meantime, I'm going to sit back and enjoy watching you bring your car back to life.
