So I'm considering something...since I found out the transmission isn't original to the car I now have, I'm thinking of selling the transmission and dual gate shorty setup. Would there be any interest in this? What could I expect for a fair price?
*edit* Wanted to let you all know that I am only considering selling after I try to find the original car it goes to. If something doesn't work out in say a few months or so of searching, then I will open it to those who need it here only since you have helped me so much.
There is a vin derivative stamped on the transmission. Search for 1969 Hurst olds 344879Mxxxxxx Replace the x's with the vin or post it on here. Who knows you might get lucky.
You are right. Any ideas on what to use to get that clean? Brake cleaner? I've been trying with just a rag with some water on it and with years of old buildup it isn't moving. Plus it is hard to get to in the car.
I actually have a video on my iphone of my cleaning the tag off from the start. Was really hoping for the OW tag, but had an idea this was where it was headed. I'll upload to Youtube when I get a chance.
Thanks Hairy Olds, I know we have some of that around somewhere. Now to jack this thing back up. I need to know where the best jacking points are for long term use because I plan on keeping this up in the air for a while.
Looks like it belongs to 1969 H/O #355, which if someone here has that car...well we can talk. Because it was my father in laws car and maybe has the W30 transmission in it...who knows???
IDK anything about that site but my guess is if the Vin is on it the car is a known existing car, maybe send an EM to the site owner and see if he can connect you to the Vin owner ?
70-442-w30 Very cool story and family heirloom. Regarding finding the owner of car #355- the odds are not good, but you could try an advertisement in The Oldsmobile Club of America. Another option would be to post on this Facebook website for the Hurst Olds Club of America: http://www.facebook.com/HurstOlds-Cl...3965210283107/
Thanks for the pointers. Posted some pics of the dual gate here. Still not sure what I'm doing with it yet, but if you do have any interest, let me know. Two others here are ahead of you if I do decide to part with it.
Pretty cool Vid. Any chance your father in law wrecked or blew up the H/O back in '69. Almost seems he salvaged parts he could use for racing. Tough to sell a car without valve covers, shifter and trans.

From what I was told, he traded the car in and bought something else. Probably with all of the parts you mentioned from the W30.
My gut tells me the trans is back in the garage...
Well he always said that he wished he would have held onto that Hurst Olds. So that makes me think it was in there. Because we all know when you compare the two, the W30 is definitely the star. And when you take the trans from one and put it in the other, you have 2 matching numbers cars.
See it would have been great if we could have discussed this prior to him passing, but the thing was he and many others didn't think it was the end. And then when you find out it is the end, this is the last thing to be talking about.
Also he didn't think I wanted the car and actually told my mother in law to sell it to someone else. Glad that person decided not to buy it. So I'm just left with a few little mysteries. But as time goes along it all becomes clearer.
Contact Badgley's Garage http://badgleysgarage.com/ and tell them what you have, I believe that Judy Badgley may have the '69 H/O registry, if not , she should be able to reference you. I think that Kurt Karach may have it also. #355 is on the list, but tying it to an owner may be a bit tricky.

Also just did the Mecum results. Closest I got was this one #357. Looking for #355. Would be nice if they listed at least partial VINs, like the last 2 digits.
It needs a complete rebuild. It had some moisture inside it at one point and will need some of the guts replaced. The valve body is specific to the OW and my transmission guy said the valve body will be ok. There are several specific parts in an OW but the valve body and case are the most important. I would take $450 and shipping for it if you decide you want it. I can send you pictures of it if you decide you want to see them. You may be able to find a 70 OW. They are out there from time to time. Just be very carefull not to buy a retaged fake. If you find one post pictures here before you buy it. I hate seeing people pay good money for a fake part.
I appreciate the offer, but if I was to buy one it would need to be ready to go. I've installed a rebuilt transmission before, but never actually rebuilt one myself. This isn't the project for me to learn that on. Thanks for the advice on the retagging.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I have had two people interested so far. One of who I don't know exactly if they would want the whole trans/shifter setup (Tim) and the other via PM who appears only interested in the shifter.
I plan on searching for the original car this goes to until my wife's 40th birthday in March. If I can't find car #355 by then, the next step will be to sell it to any interested party here in the order of which they expressed interest, with any who wish to buy the entire setup taking priority over anyone who just wants the shifter only or the trans only. Price to be determined after I get some feedback on what a fair price would be for the set together or each part separate.
Can anyone tell me if this is a *true* 1969 H/O. A few things look out of place like the valve covers and the shift console which are signs I'm looking for. But I'm thinking this car might have not been an original H/O, as it seems to have many issues unrelated to these. Let me know what you think.
