Need measurements on original-type non-OIA Air cleaner for '69 Olds 442

Needing an original-type non-OIA Air cleaner for my '69 Olds 442. However, in order to make sure I get the right one, could somebody who knows they have the correct original equipment send me some measurements? Outside top diameter of air cleaner pan, full height of air cleaner pan, length of intake spout, distance on spout to center of air regulator, height and width of spout opening, etc.?

I believe these had only one intake and were painted red. Where can I get the correct red paint (preferably in a spray can)? And the correct emblem (was it a decal or an aluminum circle)? A photo of correct emblem would really help.

Very appreciated.

For '69, the emblem was a decal. The decal, and the correct color paint, can be obtained from Fusick (www.fusick.com). I believe the part number for the decal is DC39 (you need to check to make sure) and the part number for the spray can red paint is AF150S.

I've got some other things going today but I'll take measurements of my '69 air filter tonight and send them.

And Randy, you are right on the part numbers (just called Fusick).

Here is a picture of mine, with the rattle can red from super cars unlimited. If you don't get the measurements I can get them for you this weekend.

Here's the measurements I got. I took a bunch of pictures so I'll follow on with extra posts to show all the pictures. My '69 is the standard issue 400 engine, no OAI, the car does have A/C.

Outside top diameter of air cleaner pan: 16 9/16"

Full height of air cleaner pan: 2 1/2 "

Length of intake spout taken on center top: 8 7/8""

Length of snout taken on the side: 9 1/2"

Distance on spout to center of air regulator (on top): 6 5/8"

Distance on spout to center of air regulator opening (on bottom): 6"

Height of spout opening: 2 3/8"

Width of spout opening: 3 3/4" to 3 13/16" (hard to tell here; mine is a little bent!)

Air cleaner lid: 16 7/8" diameter

I'll start adding pictures here.

I was looking at the measurement on the bottom of the snout to the center of the air regulator opening wrong. It looks more like 5 13/16" to the center of the opening, rather than the 6" I had previously indicated.

Wow! Great photos. Very helpful to many, because the 69 Olds 442 Air cleaner was only produced in that exact form only in that year.

Thanks Randy!

A minor FYI here: That air cleaner was not exclusive to the 442. The "Highway Patrol" L32 got the same air cleaner with the only difference being the decal.

Nice work guys

before the Crash of 2012 [my computer] I had handy photos showing the difference in snouts between '69 Cutlass and 442. Width of the base where it meets the housing is pronounced.

If your factory inked info is still present, the part number and 2-letter code can be found there, which pegs the application. I believe "OS" is one of the '69 442 air cleaners.

Thanks! Yes, the ones that I have seen do have an OS two-letter code

The search can be broadened out to other non-442 origins too. The '69 Inspector's Manual reveals that Some Vistas and Deltas have them. Vistas with the 400 (L31) had them. All Delta models with the 390 hp L32 455 had them, too, regardless of whether or not they were Cop cars. The only differences are the labels.

Which then begs the question:

"What air cleaner does that '67 Cop Car A-body seen elsewhere on CO have?"

Should be the L77 engine which is the same as the L78 442 engine except for plugs and air cleaner label.

I have an "OR" air cleaner in my spare parts that, on first glance, looks just like the "OS" air cleaner mentioned above, probably because the color (red) is the same. But that "OR" air cleaner, upon just a little closer inspection, is quite different! I believe the "OR" air cleaner has some 350 and 455 applications, but not used on the 400 engine.

Correct. "OR" is "the other" much more common red high compression air cleaner. Noticeably narrower snorkel where it meets the air cleaner body.
In '69 (and most of the '60s) the high compression air cleaners were red and the low compression were black.

My "OR" doesn't quite look like your air cleaner. I've attached pictures so you can see how mine looks. I've looked around and I'm pretty sure this "OR" is for a '69; I didn't see 6484803 listed for '68 and I don't have any listings for '70. But what you see below is what I have. The lid is from somewhere else - the center chrome piece doesn't even fit as it should. And, per your comment, "...the decal wasn't mine..." either!

So would an air cleaner with #OS 64848?4 (can't make all the numbers out - see photos attached) be correct for a 69 442?

Thanks

Right, a '68. Looks like the OE found on high compression 4-bbls (OC on high compression 2-bbl 455s.)
OG is the 442 aircleaner, also found on L77 (cop car) A-bodies, 400 ci Vistas, and the L74 and L76 equipped 88s.
