SSll bezels

My 71 442 still has its original 5 SSll wheels
the bezel on the wheels are smooth with just one slight ridge in the center. The bezels on most cars that I see have several ridges going around them. Most all repro
bezels also have the ridges. Why the two kinds?

There are actually 3 types of bezels for the Oldsmobile SSII/SSIII wheels. The correct one for your 1971 is shown top right in this picture:

I am constantly learning new information on this forum. I never know there were two different variations of the wide bezels. What is the year break for the wide bezels? I believe the last design was introduced mid-year on the '78 models.

SSll bezels

I was almost positive the SSIis on my 71 were the original wheels. I bought it in1980, and the window sticker shows SSlls. The bezels look more like the upper left in the picture you sent. What were these bezels used on? I saw no reason the wheels would have been changed, but who knows! All 5 wheels match.

Post pics showing the date codes and wheel codes - should be stamped into the rim on either side of each valve stem hole. Trim rings need to be off to see them.
