Just a quick question i have resantly changed the alternator on the cutlass due to the old one having issues.
When connecting the new alternator i have reconnected it the same as what it was when i took it off but know the alternator warning light is permantly off when you turn the ignition on ( before starting the car) is this normal or do i have another issue else where

 

Light should be on with ignition switch on (before starting). This checks if the bulb is working.

 

He is correct about the light should light when the key is on and engine is off.
But the charging light circuit starts the charging cycle on alternator systems with an idiot light.
What alternator/regulator system do you have, internal or external?
