I hope there is not a limit to the number of questions allowed on the forum. . . . I'm preparing to put my second 1967 442 back together after body and paint work and it seems like there are lots of details to consider. While I'm not sure I'll ever show the car, I would like to do all I can to meet OCA standards for stock class car. So, here are some additional details that have confused me.
First, in looking at trim for the front and rear glass, I find black fiber or rubber "insulators" on several old pieces. What are they for? Should they be replaced? How many? Can replacement be found (I haven't checked the usual supply houses, but I'm not even sure what to call them)?
Second issue is possibly one I should run by the show judges, but I thought some on this forum may have had experience. Putting accessories on the engine leads to these challenges:
I thought I had the pieces to mount the alternator. When I check the upper backet used to adjust belt tension, I find a slightly different appearance than in the assembly manual. Not a really big difference, but there's a hole in mine that doesn't show in the manual!
I haven't found a part number on it. But I HAVE found a number on the other bracket and it is not the same as called out in the manual -- 397209 in manual, 389235 on the bracket.
My "first" 442 has brackets that appear to be identical to the two I have. The "first" car has had power steering installed AFTER purchase; the "second" car will not have power steering. But it seems the alternator is mounted in the same location for either.
Yeah, I know, what does it really matter, but. . . .!?

Thanks, Joe. That works out. Believe it or not, I had my "first" 1967 442 at a club meeting being held during a huge swap meet at the Charlotte Motor Speedway MANY years ago. I noticed a guy with his head under the hood so I walked over. He mentioned that his brother-in-law bought a car just like mine brand new but it didn't have power steering. Something had told me that power steering wasn't originally on the car. He told me his BIL's name and I pulled out the protectoplate with the same name on it!! Being able to recognize the car twenty years later suggests to me that not much had been changed -- except, of course, the power steering. So, I'm using that car to give me directions on my second 442. The alternator brackets I have and are on the first car are identical. I'm going with them.
Not being familiar with the '67, but I'd say that the black tabs on the backside of the strips are there to prevent rattle after the chrome is installed.
