Heater control valve

I working on my 65 442 (no AC) and when pulling the manifold I noticed it didnt have a heater control value, the hose was just connected straight to the intake manifold.

Just wanted to see if this is indeed who it was originally intended or if the PO just decided not to put it on there.

Here's a link to the part which I assumed (based my my 69 w/AC) should be there.

https://www.opgi.com/cooling-heating...2-ce12175.html

Thanks for the help.

IIRC no AC equals no heater control valve. Someone will confirm.

Seems like one year 60s 442 has the vacuum operated heater valve whether it's an AC car or heater only. My books aren't handy. Joe P will know.

*edit- found it* 1965. Also uses bracket p/n 389434 and retainer 1484385.

Apparently used only on 64 F85 police with a/c and 1965 442. My guess is your car's valve failed and couldn't find correct replacement. If you can't find one I'd use a restriction nipple like later non-air cars did. Might save your heater core.

Glenn is correct. The 1965 442s and cars with RPO V02 HD Cooling used the heater control valve as a restrictor on non-A/C cars. No vacuum line was hooked to it. This is shown in the PIM. Note that the valve uses a short elbow hose to connect from the nipple to the inlet of the valve. Note that if all you care about is correct function, use a restrictor nipple in the intake and don't worry about the heater control valve. If you want to be optically correct, this is what is required.

I have original & after market brackets and control valves for the '65 442 with a/c, one year only. PM me if interested in purchasing, I need to get rid of these.

Thanks all. @joe_padavano I think the PO just had a restrictor nipple on there, I'll have to verify when I get home, but from when I remember pulling the manifold off, the hose was just connected directly to the manifold.

@joe_padavano where would one find a restrictor nipple? The current one on the original manifold seems to be on there pretty good. Wondered if it would be easier to just get a new one.

Thanks.

Rick, Inline Tube sells them. They come in both 5/8" and 3/4" NPT, depending on which your intake needs.
