What temp thermostat should the 455 use?

I have ordered my chassis service manual, Hasn't arrived yet. I am dressing up my engine bay a little bit and while I was sanding and painting the t-stat housing I wanted to replace the t-stat, might as well, I am already in there. The parts store had two options for that motor, a 192 degree and a 195 degree. Both seem really high to me. What should I use on that motor? thanks, dave

Either of those would be fine.

for a pure stock motor 192 is correct. on my car, i would run a 180.

192 or 195. Stant makes a heavy duty t-stat too. Google it it will describe the differences. Its all I use now as long as the parts guy has a cross ref #

Thanks

I put the 180 in there. My 455 is stock right now but wont be for long. Doing headers and exhaust now, new rear, new cam, ignition system, a few other small things should get me through the summer. Pulling the motor this winter and playing a little more with it. Should be a great learning experience.
