What does it take to

get a OIA hood for a '69 Cutlass?
Can a '70 hood be converted?

We've a chopped and sectioned '69 Cutlass, [I'm trying to get pics, have some poloroids that're bad] that has 5" out of the sides, and the carb is so close to the hood, you can't even put the stud in it!!
Thought of the H/O scoop, but I think the OIA hood would give more room.
It's a 350, and wanted to put a 455 in it, but there's no room, heightwise!
Also thought about modifying the engine stands and front crossmember to drop it down more - don't think the pan can be modified.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Not sure what caused your situation but yes a 70 hood can be added with some modifications.

The OAI hood won't provide any more clearance than stock, and if it has an air box underneath it will actually provide less. Note that the surface between the two scoops is at the same level as on a non-OAI hood, and that's the part directly over the carb. The H/O scoop is a better choice.

Just what I thought - like the OAI hood better, but clearance is the problem!
Thanks, Joe.
