Water pump number..

Hi everybody,
on a 71 455, the water pump has casting # 408328, could it be a replacement at the time, or it's an original !

Thanks

According to my references, the 408328 waterpump was used on the 71 and 72 455 without A/C or heavy duty cooling. Not used on the W-30 or cars with 3.73:1 or taller differentials.

Thanks, but could this pump be a replacement from the dealer at the time ? I can see I think "D3" also on the pump, I would be surprised that this pump was installed in 71 and lasted so long.......could have been rebuild back then maybe ?

Thanks

There should also be a two or three digit julian date stamp somewhere on the waterpump as well. It would be interesting to see where that julian date lies in comparison with the build date of your car. It's possible that it was a dealer replacement unit. I would be surprised if it was an unrebuilt original that still works after all these years. It is possible it was rebuilt sometime in its life if it works now.

I'll check for these digit when removing the pulley. I'll let you know.

Thanks

The 2 didit is D3, and after measuring the pump. it is 5.7" long, so it is a #408329 not 328.
The 455 no AC should have the 5.0" pump right ? I have the stock KJ and KM pulleys, how does everything fit together properly?
I'm not complaining but it's weird.

Thanks
