orig water pump??

orig water pump??

Hey all the 71 i recently bought came with a water pump in a box in the trunk
how do i tell if it is the orig and does it really pay to keep somthing like that??? i was reading an ad and the guy memtions the code on his water pump?

'71 442 models had three different water pumps, depending upon options. Those casting numbers are 408328, 408329, and 407536. If any of those casting numbers are on the water pump you have, it's an original.

An original water pump would also have a closed cast impeller. An original WP housing may have been rebuilt with a stamped impeller.

yes..highly recommend cars original pumps be rebuilt ..show cars get points off if not correct casting / date & correct impeller maintains proper flow rate...
Rebuilders swapped pumps / starters / alternaters ***** - nilly & almost nohody has cirrect units....
