W-30 carb identification help

This is a service replacement carb. 3072 date. I know for sure it is not a restamp. It had a poor stamping. I can not tell if it is an 8 or a 6. It looks mostly like a 6 but in the sun just right it looks like an 8. I found it on a 70 350 4 speed engine that sit in a barn since the late 70s. The engine (not original to the car) was found in a 70 W-30 automatic and removed in the late 70s. Is there any way to tell what it is by rods or hangers? were there much difference between the 0258 and 0256? I do not think this carb was ever apart. If it was they didn't scuff the screw heads.

I had planed to use it on my W-30 but if I can figure out for sure it is a 6 I may try to find an 8 and sell this one.

FWIW, The stamp looks like an 8 to me.

The '258 carb was used on automatic W-30s. If Rochester built the replacement carbs like the originals, it will have .070 primary jets and the 3-step primary metering rods (can't remember what size). The 3-step rods were unique to 1970, so it wouldn't surprise me if they built replacement carbs years later with the 2-step rods.

The '256 carb was used on manual W-30s. It will have .058 primary jets with NO primary metering rods. Smaller jet than the automatic, but nothiing plugging the hole. Obviously built for track use.

Pretty easy to tell if it's a 6 or an 8. If it has primary metering rods, it's an 8. No rods, it's a 6.

I just pulled the top. It is a 7040256.

No primary rods
primary jets are 58
secondary hanger G
secondary rods AU

Now I am faced with a dilemma. Do I find an original? I thought about it and I know I am not going to build this one for the car. If it is not going to be a correct number carburetor I will have Sparky rebuild my 0257 carb for it.
