Tach not Working

Gentlemen, would anyone have experience in a tach not working? This is the in-dash unit on a 1967. Any ideas would be helpful. it appears connected correctly. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it is connected the right way? Is there a fuse for the tach, and did you check it? Does it light up with lights on? I would check the wires for a break.

Factory Rally Pack? Factory install or subsequent installation? Factory harness or not?

It looks connected the right way. In fact untouched from day one but I'll check again. I don't see a fuse for it and yes, the light comes on. Thanks 442Harv

Joe, it a factory Rallye Pack from the factory (on dealer invoice). I hate being an amateur on this and electric is my weakest skill.

Joe, thank you for supplying the illustrations. This isn't something your average hobbyist can handle as far as I can tell. The instructions say that the tach and its circuit board need to be replaced or repaired as a unit.

Does anyone know an Oldsmobile restoration shop they can recommend? :--)

I agree with Koda, great info Joe! On another note, my tach was working when I got it and suddenly stopped. This happened a couple times before it stopped moving at all. Note the oil pressure gauge was still working as it should, the others are not being used and the clock never worked. Before I got into diagnostic mode I simply, carefully fed a small flexible wire in the gap where the clock is set and gently nudged the tach needle until it moved in the correct direction. It started working again. I had to do that twice before it took and stopped sticking. Has been working for a year or so now. Worth a try if it suddenly stopped working before digging in too far.

That's a fantastic idea and thank you for taking the time to tell me about it mpowell. I'll report back with results. I see we have very similar Olds.

I couldn't get the wire to cooperate, but I was able to jostle the tachometer needle when using the time adjuster for the clock. At least I can confirm the needle is free to move.

here is a picture of the little wire tool I made. I keep it in my console just in case.
Can’t believe snap on hasn’t contacted me to buy the rights to this tool, lol.
