Rear axle..

Hi again, Can you tell which differentiel is this, i'm a bit confused, it's on my friend's 71 442 (455cu), I need to order axle bearing,
it's a 10 bolts for sure. Need to know if I have to remove cover to take out the "C" clips in order to remove the axle.

Thanks a lot

See the block "O" on the front face of the center section between the ribs? That definitively identifies it as a 8.5" 10 bolt rearend used in the '71-'72 model years.

Axle bearings should be SET9. Be aware that some of the oil seals are not the correct thickness. Monzaz has posted about this a lot: 712146 SEAL IS SUPPOSE TO MEASURE .490

Search the forum for his posts before buying parts. Or just buy the parts you need from him directly.

Thanks for the info, the one at Rockauto are 0.375 width, if I use that, I suppose there will be a leak or ?

The spec for Timken seal 712146 are 0.470 not 0.490 : Part Number 712146, Oil Seals Inch On The Timken Company

For the bearing, are National A9 ok ?
