Hey Ken,
Haven't seen or heard anything recently on this project. I was in the vicinity of Tri-star a couple of times last month and was darn tempted to "drop in" just to see your car. Thought it might be better if you were there.

So what's been done? Hoping to hear that it's painted and back in your garage for the winter. If it's not I'm betting that Tri Star has struck again. If it's still there can you pm me and leave your ph #? Love to say hi and see your car even if it's still in the shop. Al

Ken, how's it going to date? That car would have been in the paint bay for primer and paint at any other body shop by now. I don't get how Tri Star is tying up this much space and time in a production shop. Gotta be they're slamming insurance claims together and you get the leftover time.

Now I'm curios, how did you end up using Tri Star? Referral? Advertising? I can't believe that Dougs Place, Eggberts or Ames would turn you down? That would be really unusual. Only thing that might set me back is their prices, but they all do quality work.

Noticed that the interior of your car is not draped. Probably going to have all kinds of bondo dust and crud in the vents and crevices.

More power to you for staying on top of this project. When I talked to Bob over at Ames about a rotiserrie on my 72 he said it would include a CD library of all work b4 during and after to document the work and the car. Also said that when finished it would be a trailer queen. He's done lots of restos that have placed 1st and 2nd in the local MotorRama. (My 72 is currently appraised at a 2+ with NOS and reconditioned OEM parts , that's why it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.)

Next time you need new paint LMK and I'm gonna call Chip Foose on OVERHAULIN' and get you a 7 day miracle. The smile you'd have on your face would make a cheshire cat jealous.
Alan, I tried Dougs Place and a few others. No one would do "an old car". I called my insurance co. and they called Tri-Star and was told that they would do it. So I took the car there.

They are doing a good job, just slow. If they could get this guy to work a week. You know about the labour shortage here. So, it's tough. Hopefully I'll have it by Dec.

Well, I thought it snowed but there was a noticable change from the week before. Looks like this may be the remnants of sanding. So I suppose primer is next week. Anyway here's the latest....

OK. I didn't post last week because the bodyguy had not shown up the entire week. This week in was in for two days but it looks like he did a lot in that time. He wasn't in today but I was told they will be masking the car for paint pretty soon. Don't know if they are just stalling at this point. Took quite a few shots this time. I dropped off new weatherstripping for the doors and trunk. I see that they've removed the door panels. Here's the latest...

There's a labour shortage here. Businesses are crying for workers so that's why they put up with him. They say he does do excellent work, I suppose in a year from now I won't care as long as the job is what I expect it to be. It's close to being masked off for painting. Once that is done, then the painter takes over. Hopefully I'll have it by Dec. Weather is cooperating so far. Above seasonal temperatures and no snow. Tomorrow is supposed to be 14C (about 57F). If it keeps up, I'll drive her home. Otherwise it will be the first time she's seen a trailer.

Sorry, no update this week. Visited the shop and the guy wasn't in this week. They don't know where he is. I told Bruce, that it was OK as I look forward to getting free winter storage. I don't think he liked that comment. He said he's going to put his foreman on the job to finish it off. So no change this week. Maybe next week? Gee, I hope the bodyman's in when I finally pick up the car. One of the main foundations of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms is Freedom of Speech and I plan to excercise that right

Danny, Let's say I'm a tad stressed. Bruce (the owner of the shop), said the car will be in the paint bay week of the 15th. I called yesterday as asked if it was worth coming in to see it and he said "no, but if you come in on Saturday you'll see a difference." I told him I couldn't come in today and he said then the next time you come in you'll see a difference." He said they plan on painting the car just before or during the Christmas break, which is fine, as I'm off during the break. I've already priced out a flat deck tow truck as there is snow on the ground and today was -26C. I'm going in next Thursday at lunch to see it. So hopefully it will be masked and in the paint bay.

Don't get too stressed out. I am sure you will be impressed once the work is done. I had a similar situation when I was having the machine work done on my engine. The machinist kept dragging his feet and the process dragged on for 4 or 5 months. I finally got the engine though and I was very impressed with the work. I am sure you will love to drive the car with the new paint. Keep us posted.

Well, they painted the door jams and the lower portion. I was told that it's moving into the paint bay next week for 3-4 days. From that I presume that it will be ready to come home the week of the 29th. I won't hold my breath, but at this point they can keep it until Spring for all it matters.
They painted the underside of the hood. The top side has a hard shell and almost feels like enamel paint. Anyway, it's moving along. Here's the latest as of noon today.

Hi Ken,
I think you're right. This doesn't look like it's going to be done by the week of the 29th. All that time to do the jambs? BTW, I notice that they took off your door sticker with the build date and option codes. Do they still have it or are you getting a new one made?

Guess you're not going to need the trailer rental for a while. The way it's been snowing the last couple of days, I wouldn't even dream of trailering it home unless it was late night with no traffic.

Hey Allan,

I've got a new one to put on along with the vintage "Transport Canada" sticker. I'm off until the 5th after tomorrow so I'll be checking in as much as possible.

I got about 5 or 6 options for flat deck's. I will try to time it so I can get it home in the best weather possible. I'll have to clear the snow away from the front of the garage so as not to track snow inside.

Is that the little Blue sticker with the black lettering? I am missing one from my 72. I got a replacement door sticker complete with VIN and weights but I've never found the little canadian decal. Where did you find it?

Yep, the little round sticker with the black lettering. I picked up a few in the junkyard. When you drive that 72 beauty over to my house this summer, I'll give you one.

Well it's the new year, but with the weather the way it is, I'm in no hurry to bring my 442 home just yet. Apparently they plan to paint the disassembled parts first, then paint the car and then install them. . It was moved and is fifth in line to the paint booth. Anyway here is what it was like today.

Well spoken, Father Pilidas. It's been a wicked 2 1/2 months at work and I haven't had time to check in. Gr8 emails BTW, keep em coming!

What's happening with your blue monster?? I'm really REALLY hoping that it's home by now, but based on how long TriStar took to get it to the last pics, I'm not holding my breath.

Sent my 98 in for surgery today over at AMES. Not as nice a shop layout as TS, but Bob will bust his butt to give perfect results for a really fair price.

I'll forward my Rocket roundup soon as I can. Gotta get my silver ghost ready to roll...maybe a few weeks down the road when the snow's all gone.
