Need Help With My 1977 442

I need help. I got this car as a gift, it currently doesn't run as far as I know its due to the ignition switch.
Someone tried to break into it, and really messed up the ignition switch.
So I got a new one, took the steering wheel off and Idk how to pop off the metal plate so I can get into the ignition switch.

If anyone has step by step details on how to replace it, and any other information regarding a 1977 Olds 422 I would appreciate it.
I'm having a hard time determining what kind of engine is in it as well.

Thanks!

You need a lock plate spring compressor. This link covers repair of a different tilt column problem but all the steps up to removal of the ignition switch also apply to your situation.

If the engine is a V6, it's the Buick 3.8 liter. If it's a V8, locate the block casting number on the small shelf above the water pump (where the oil fill tube is located) and post it here.

Thanks for that link that is going to help me out sooooo much!
I'll be working on it later today, so I'll get the engine size and post it here later today.
Thanks for your help.

You should also consider purchasing a factory service manual if you are going to be doing alot of tinkering on your car. They are invaluable.
