Does anyone have any pictures/diagrams of how the jack/spare tire is supposed to be stored/clamped down in the trunk? Steel wheel, by the way.

1968. Sometimes, I'm such an idiot. AFTER (instead of before, like I should have) posting this, I found that this topic has been hashed out previously, and the most helpful info was in a previous thread noting that the assembly manual had a diagram on jack placement in the trunk, and I got it all battened down. The assembly manual is helpful, but I have a hard time finding the info I'm looking for at the time.

 

It takes some getting used to but once you figure out there's no better place for information. The manual is generally arranged in the order that the car was assembled. I usually look at the index first and that gets me to the section or two I need. After using it for a while you'll start to memorize the sections and won't need the index.

 

Be nice if there was a post or web page showing all olds trunk/ Jack layout. My 1964 88 does have a sticker so it was going to car shows and google photos to find layout information. When I got car it had no jack no tire.

Most notably, the jack handle clipped onto the upper inside trunk lip, jack base is under the tire, and the J hook is shorter with a special nut (instead of wing nut) that holds the tire in place. Note: Tire is also stored upside right instead of upside down.

 

Good info. I don't think my old heap is an SSI car, but it came to me with SSIs on it. I believe the jack sticker is there (and is for normal wheels), but the clips for the wrench are not there, nor is any jack equipment. I suppose, since I have some nice SSIs and am adding every option under the sun to the car, might as well make it SSI jack stowage compliant.
