I need wheel opinions
I need wheel opinions
I have a set of 14" SS wheels with the trim rings and I have been pricing 14" tires and the rears will cost $200 and the fronts about $150. I have a like new set of 15" tires in the attic. A pair of 275/60/15 and a pair of 215/70/15 all 4 are BF goodrich radial T/A's. My son suggests that I buy a new set of 15" SS1 rims because he thinks 14"'s are too small for the car and we could use our new rubber. I'm thinking 15X8 on the back with 275/60/15 and the 215's on the front with 15X7's. The whole set will only cost me $250 more than using my old 14" rims and buying new tires. And if I need new 14" trim rings The savings would only be $150. I'm leaning towards the new rims.
Thanks for any help,
Dave

Dave,
If you are going to be keeping it as a show car or driver, I'd save the 14's somewhere (for future sale with car maybe) and run with the 15's. The wheel wells look a little empty with the 14's in my opinion.

Its all a matter of what you like. If you want it to look stock, then it has to be stock, 14". Anything else is just a matter of what you like, and in that case suit yourself! Go for what you like, and don't feel like you need anyone's endorsement. It's your car!
I would stand out from the crowd and get some whitewall tires, stock steel wheels and wheel covers.
I just happen to have whitewalls and wheel covers on my Vista Cruiser.
If I wanted a 442 I would of bought a Cutlass, like everybody else.

Of course, if the consensus is that 15" wheels are better than 14" wheels then why not go to 28" wheels. Bigger is better right?

My 70 SX Conv has 15's (SS3's) from a mid 70's Cutlass and they look real good and the right size for the car. I kept the original 14 " SS1's in the shed in case. I actually like the SS1 design better than SS2/3 and my car came with both, but the 15 inch size looks better to me. Buying Repro SS1's in 15 inch size would be the best of both worlds if I had the cash.
Suffice it to say, we should all just be glad you did not ask about putting on 22" wheels with a hydraulic system and a 4000 AMP stereo.

I bet I would have to listen to Rap music and have my hind end hanging out of my pants to fully understand the beauty of the 26 inch wheels and a thumping stereo system. I'll have to price out that stuff and see if I can afford it.
