I am getting ready to replace the original factory dual exhaust system on my 72 Cutlass Supreme U Code 455. After reading many posts, I have decided to go with the 2.5" Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers. I am looking for advice on which length muffler to use, the short version (14") or the long version (20")? I don't want it to sound too loud or too quiet. I would appreciate any input for this decision.

I've used the 14" versions on many of my 442s, and I've always been happy. Aggressive without sounding obnoxious. The 20" versions will obviously be quieter. I plan to use those on the Custom Cruiser when the 455 goes in.

I have had a set of the 20" turbo's on a '66 for the last two years. I'm extremely happy with the sound and volume. No cabin resonance whatsoever.

Got 14"s on mine. Sounds good and not too loud either. I am happy with them. I get a little resonance at around 50-55 mph, but since I am never at that speed very often, it does not bother me.

The perfect exhaust (IMHO) is a Torque Tech 2.5" mandrel bent system with 2 DynoMax 17749 long case turbo mufflers (no crossover).

Noticeable idle, sounds nice at cruise, and really barks at WOT.

Thanks for the feedback! Will the short mufflers resonate or droan more than the long mufflers?
