Which muffler should I use?

Just installed the new headers and want to put different mufflers on the beast. Although straight headers on the 455 are the loudest thing i have ever heard not very practical for someone who gets home from work at 5:30 in the morning. Is there a website where i can hear different mufflers on the 455? Do some mufflers work better with this engine? should I install an x-pipe? Or is it all just personal preference? Thanks, Dave

I'd go to some local car shows and listen if you've got time.

If you want it real loud go with Dynomax race bullets. They sound awesome, but they hardly muffle at all.

I have stainless steel magnaflows. They are nice and mellow at idle but open up nicely when I'm on the gas. They look to be well constructed (fully welded) so hopefully they last a while.

If you like noise try the 2 1/2" Flowmaster 40 series that i install in my Cutlass. I dont have tailpipes. I just have the cut offs before the rear axle.

Walker 21468 are relatively small and light, 3" with no louvers or restrictions. They help a lot with the loudness without hurting performance. Just don't get on it too much and in most areas you will be OK. They are intended for diesels where the turbo quiets the exhaust some.

Flowmaster American Thunder sounds great on my '72, but might be too quiet if you really want it loud.
