70/71 power window door panels

Can some one confirm that the holes for the cranks in manual window door panels can be altered and accomodate power window switches without leaving evidence of not being factory installed? In other words, they end up in the same location as they would have been from the factory?

With some patience & cutting tools(dremel, scalpel, box knife), you can alter tne crank holes for the power window switches & it will look like a factory install. There are notches on the back of the panel that show where to cut.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. It's nice to know I can alter the original panels and not have to replace them.

Yes, in the same places. Try to cut on the back side in case your knife slips. A sharp razor knife worked best for me... Maybe make a cardboard template first.

There are also metal retaining tabs that fit into the door panel and bend behind the panel in order to hold the switch. I did the same thing on my panels and they came out like the factory.

Here's a pic of the metal retaining tabs that RocketBrian is referring to. These have tabs that bend over the backside of the doorpanel boards and the chrome "button" assemblies slip into these.

These would also serve as a template of sorts to guide you while cutting...always err on the side of slightly small and work your way up to the final size if possible.
