Is the headlight shroud...is this the proper term?...for the 68 442 reproduced? My grille is good but the plastic on the shroud is pretty beat..Thanks, Ted

How the hell is THAT a "door" ?!?!
That's crazier than calling a dipstick an "indicator" which at least makes sense in English, or "propeller shaft" for what everyone else calls a "driveshaft."

I like to call 'em "headlight plastics" for the '68
Nothing else fits that description, and it's plain English.

 

I believe that the term "headlight door" goes back to the 1920s or '30s, when many were hinged on one side, because bulbs didn't last long, and drivers needed easy access to change them.

Always thought they were headlight housings.

 

Probably goes back earlier than that, so you could open it to light the candle...

Anyway, that's what I've always called them, too.

Well, by that reasoning, the thing your right foot pushes to make the thing go faster should be called the "buggy whip" or "spur"

 

... And the trunk should be called the... er... "trunk,"

... and the tires should be called the "tires,"

... and the dashboard should be called the "dashboard."
