My 69 442 is in the body shop and had the hood and hinges replaced due to an accident. The body guy wants to paint the hinges and the bottom side of the hood white to match the outside paint. Is he correct or should they be painted black? The original hinges and hood were black but the previous owner also painted the entire front end black, so I'm a little wary what's correct.
I had the same issue, entire engine compartment and bottom of hood was painted gloss black, gave me a headache to look at it! I stripped everything and brought it back to as close as I could get. Bottom of the hood should be a satin/semi gloss black similar to the color on this core support...hinges are phosphate plated.

A close match to the phosphate-plated hood hinges is a Seymour cast iron gray paint called Cast Blast. As well, when I did my springs, I used a turnbuckle tool to spread them out and I painted them a Seymour color called stainless steel. It looks pretty close.
There's not much flat black under the car. It's usually satin. The hood color should really be natural color hood pad when you look at it when open, but, under the pad, satin black.
As for the hinges, like the joke goes, "Phosphate, I dig it."
