70 W-30 Hood Marking - Is This Original?
Was reading the 71 W-30 thread, and remembered I had taken some pics of some markings I found on the underside of my hood. Are these typical? I can't figure out how to read a date into it - it looks like 509 X to me. My car was built 4th week Jan 70.

Have two 70's with same markings on rear of hood, passenger side. My "121" "X" matches production "A" build sheet line # on top row A. No other ties to broadcast card found in body. PM me and I will forward pics of sheet and factory markings.

my 70 442 oai hood under the screen in the center has a 62 then under the 62 is
4-15-2 and under that is 16 . i will have to chk my build sheet. i will be painting the underside and would like to duplicate these markings.

I have heard two versions of why these markings are there. One is date confirming antifreeze check, which should relate to build date. Second is last three digits of sequence number to let line workers see which job number is coming next. The placement of next to hinge area though would make it hard to read at any distance.

Wow! Thanks for the response. Your original marking does look like mine with the X on the end. What does the line number signify? I have the broadcast card for mine, but not that sheet that you show in your picture. 509 seems like a pretty large number for the day's production sequence as opposed to your 121.

I was wondering the same thing about the markings on my 71 442, non OAI. I found what appears to be 467 x 2 near the drivers hinge area of the hood. I didn't know it's significance until I found the same 467 on the top of the lower dash section. So, I presumed it must be a sequence number. However, although I have the small assembly card that I found under the carpet, the top left corner is ineligible. I am still wondering what the X and the 2 mean. Any ideas?
