Original OW Bellhousing Marking - What is the "4" For?

See pic. This is an original marking. The repro stencils I do not believe have a supplemental number with it. My trans sequence is 1944 if this has any tie in.

My 69 OG trans had a similar number in front, I'm curious too.

My 71 OG TH400 has a small number 1 to the left of the OG. Another member on here showing pictures from his restoration also has a 1 on his 71 442's TH400. I thought maybe it was for the model year but obviously not when you have a 4 on your 69. If its like other parts, it could be a plant or shift number, just a guess.
