68 442 hood inserts

Aarg! Cannot find a good pic of what the hood inserts would have looked originally on a 68 442. Need some pics or insight.
Black inside fins, and tops chrome is my best guess...And the trim behind is body color?

Thanks,
Ted

Maybe these, but I think they are 69.

Hi Ted. No they aren't restored.
They were pulled from a rusty 68 hood
if I remember right. The cowl pieces were
the same color as the hood.

Those 69 pieces were done by someone eles.
All came from a bunch of parts I got from a
fellow in Austin a few years ago.

I started to refresh mine.
Used a fine steel wool on the chrome and it is coming up well.
The centres between the fins on the grill are black.
What would be the best paint to use?

My questions are.... the horizontal piece at the top of your pic Adam, was it painted body color?

And...were the fins chrome while the spaces in-between black?

Yes the chrome pieces are painted
black between the fins. And bothe cowl
pieces were painted the same color as the hood.
I'm suprised no one has sent a pic of their hood
already done. I would have no idea as to what
paint to use. Maybe copper might put that info in.

I cleaned up the chrome with a light wire wheel, painted the whole thing flat black, and then wet sanded the chrome with a straight edge to bring the chrome back.

BTW I really need to replace mine with a decent set one of these days. They look OK form 5' away but the inside of the fins were slightly pitted. I think you could get away with steel wool instead of the wire wheel if they aren't pitted

And yes, the back vent is body color (both pieces).
