1972 350" block, intake, carb, distributor #'s
1972 350" block, intake, carb, distributor #'s
I will be inspecting a small block 442 in the next week or so and I'd like to have all casting/stamped #'s to verify original components (or not) under the hood.
I know the heads are casting 409147 [or 7(subscript)A], but I can't find any info. on the block, intake or exhaust manifolds (or stamped #'s for carb or distributor either!).
So, if anyone has any or all of this info. please share it with me. And just curious if any of these other components have the dual methods of id like the heads do (big # as well as small #'s).
And also what the code should be for a '72 turbo 350.
I'm ok on VIN locations and date code identification.
I really did try a search on the tech section, but the info on small blocks had mostly holes in it.
Thanks again,
John

The trans case will have a vin derivative stamped above the trans pan lip.
Also, a silver I.D. tag on the passenger side.
There are date codes cast into the heads, with little fake screw bosses around the numbers. I believe they are above the exhaust ports.

72 small block 442's are cutlasses, unless they have a build sheet showing the w-29 option on it.
i would hold out for a 72 U code(455) 442,instead of a small block one.you can find really nice ones in the 15-20k range.
or youd be better off just buying a clean 72 cutlass and putting 442 emblems and stripes on it yourself.
