1969 442 cowl tag help

Hey guys,

I'm having a hard time figuring out what color my 442 was originally. The cowl says 61 F, which I think is a sable color. But what is the F for? Vinyl top? I see in 68 that the f would mean teal frost. The car currently is black with a black vinyl top.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 61 is indeed Sable for the lower body color. The F is the vinyl top color, which is brown. Here is a complete breakdown.

ST 69 = style/model year = 1969
33687: 3 = GM division = Oldsmobile; 36 = model series = Cutlass V8 (note this was used for the Cutlass and 4-4-2 on the trim tag; your VIN (344879M------) identifies your car as a 4-4-2); 87 = body type = holiday coupe (2-door hardtop without a post)
LAN = assembly plant = Lansing MI
172451 BDY = Fisher body number (this has no relationship to the VIN on your car)
TR 934 = interior color and front seat type = gold interior with bucket seats
61 F PNT = lower body color (61 = sable) and vinyl top color (F = brown)
10 E = time build code = October (10), fifth week of that month (E), 1968

My very first car was this same thing except with a white vinyl top!

Randy,

Man thanks a bunch for that info. I was trying to figure out what the F meant.

So is that sable a metallic?

Paint code 61 is Sable Poly, as in "polychromatic", aka, metallic.

And here's the list of vinyl top colors. "F" is actually Sable.

Thanks Joe. It's been hard to find what color that top was, and if in fact the sable was a "metallic" or not. I appreciate the info.
