I was told that I could use 68-72 A body headers and I have 2 sets. One new Doug's chrome plated and another used but look new Hedman Husler headers. Here is the frame and motor mounts.

Those ARE the frame mounts. The mounts that bolt to the block are all-metal brackets that look like this:

So Joe I am no closer than I was before. Looking at the picture on the bottom I thought was the frame mount and the two above would be the one that bolted to the motor. I not sure how much luck I will have finding the ones you posted. If anyone has a set they want to sell I'm in the market.

That photo is showing mounts for different blocks. The two upper ones are for a Pontiac block. The lower one is a Chevy style clamshell that goes on the frame. This is correct for a 403 also but requires the metal brackets I showed. I found a set on ebay. They are available used from Trans Am parts sources also.

Joe I was told today that some Cadillac's with Olds motors used this same mount. Do you or anyone know if this is correct?

The 1980-1990 Fleetwoods with the 307 used a similar mount. I do not know if it is exactly the same, but those cars are relatively common in wrecking yards around here. Also, the 1976-79 Seville with the fuel injected Olds 350 (and the same subframe as you Omega) also used these mounts.

One more thing to be aware of. The late 1970s Chevy trucks with the Olds diesel used similar mounts, but the block brackets are longer than the ones on the passenger cars and thus won't fit the frame mounts. Not surprisingly the truck crossmember is wider.

I posted this in the thread in the Classifieds forum, but I thought I should post it here as well for future reference:


OK, the whole F-body motor mount thing has become WAAAAY more confusing the more I look into it. Again, I'm talking about the FRAME side mounts and above I noted that they were the same between the Olds and Chevy motors. Obviously the metal block-side brackets are different, and we've discussed this above.

HOWEVER, it turns out that the frame side brackets have different part numbers, though they appear to be dimensionally interchangeable.

Anchor 2387 is listed for the 403 F-body:



Anchor 2292 is listed for the SBC F-body:



You will note that the mounting bolt holes and cross bolt hole appear to be in exactly the same places. I'm betting that the difference between the two mounts is related to the hardness of the rubber or some other second-order effect.

Even more interesting is the fact that the 76-79 Seville with the Olds 350 uses the 2292 mount which is the SBC mount, so obviously the Olds block brackets will fit either 2292 or 2387 frame mounts.

Edit:

OK, it turns out that the 1980-1984 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham with the Olds diesel also uses the 2387 mounts, so I'm guessing the difference between 2292 and 2387 is a strength, stiffness or combination issue, but dimensionally I still believe that they are equivalent.

Well I was able to buy a set of the motor mounts used over on ROP. Thanks to that member that sold them at a very reasonable price and didn't try to make it up on shipping. One bar has a hole that someone enlarged, was pointed out to me by seller before I bought it. But we both decided that maybe I should try them before repairing it. Well I have decided to pull the motor out of my 69 442 and stop taking it to test and tune on friday nights. Alot of people think I should keep using it for the cool factor. The motor is a 455 bored .060 with Wiseco pistons 9.8 to 1 compression, MSD dist. and 6A box, Torker w/quadrajet from a 403, Dougs headers and a Lunati 60804 cam. I will be putting it in my 78 Omega that was a Buick V/6 column shift bench seat car. I have talke with Stencils ans Stripes and they are making me a set of stencils for the SX, and I will paint it back white ( new Buick white gold tri-coat) and gold stripes and other than tires and wheels make it look as stock as possible. The car will be street driven and raced in true street. This class is the most popular and is not really a street class. Last year I couldn't come close to competing in it but this year they will keep it heads up but have 3 classes and put all three winners into a handicapped finals. I will need to run a high 10 to make the class. They have several cars in the class that run high 8's in the fastest class and a couple are true street cars. My motor will be allowed to run 2 stages of nitrous or 1 fogger. My son will be setting me up so I can take pictures and post as I go along. I will be able to answer alot of questions about the Omega and a big block as we go along. Such as what headers will work can I keep my A/C which is important here in Louisiana. I will also take time to put a 350 in it to see what headers will work as well. I have bought up way to many Olds cars and parts since buying my son the 69 442 for graduation. He blew the motor I went through a divorce and traded him out of the car to build for the local friday night Sonic drive in cruise night. I found 442.com and Joe and then ROP and High Performance Olds. So I have about 4 sets of headers for a smallblock and 3 for big blocks. Hope to start posting pictures of the car, headers, and mounts tonight. Wish me luck, winter is the busy season for the plant that I am Production Mgr. at.

When I did my 74' Omega I used a 77' subframe. The headers I used were at one time in my 69' vert. They fit better than in the vert. Everything else under the front end sheet metal (tilt with functional hood) was custom fabricated so I can't speak for other things.

Just got my issue of Hot Rod for may. In the Pit Stop section someone wrote asking if they could put a 455 Olds in a 77 Omega. Per the editor you can still buy the bracket mounts and spacers thru Vintage Parts Inc. and even posted the parts numbers. He also stated that if you can't order them contact Burt Chevrolet In Englewood California and they will order them for you.

I just picked up a set of the olds engine mounts off of a 75 caddi seville. A lot of work to get them out with the engine still in the car at a wrecking yard.

These are for my 78 SX. The v6 was apart when I got it so I figured I would drop in a 350 or a 403. I have 4 455s but figure the small block will do fine.
