Tire size

Hey guys! Looking to upgrade tries. I have SSII 14" now, need new skins but is it worth it to upgrade to 15"?? What fits best? Not sure how big I can go on the tire with 14x7. 72 cutlass supreme convertable. Thanks, Jack

I ran 245-60-14s on 14x7 SSIII wheels front and back for 20 years, then switched to 245-60-15s on 15x7 SSIII wheels a couple years ago.

About the best choice for 14" tires readily available today are the 225/70-14s. These are as close to the stock size as you can find without paying big money for the repro tires. 245/60s are a whopping 3/4" wider than the 225/70s, but they are a lot smaller in diameter and in my opinion look lost in the wheel wells.

14's don't have the selection of tire that the 15's have.

Thanks again Joe! Still have drums all around and not sure if I should up it to 15" wheels. May be a disc upgrade too.

15" rims give ~1/2" more room for disk brakes that are larger than stock. All 14" rims work with factory disk brakes except early SSIs (and probably 14" steelies too........but I've not seen those discussed being used w/ disk brakes).

Yes, 15" will fit with no issues. My Dad bought a 1970 Supreme in 1977 with a set of 1977 Monte Carlo wheels and 225-70-15 tires and there were absolutely no fitment or rubbing issues. He kept that tire size for years then I switched to 255-60s on back and 245-60s on front again with no fitment or rubbing issues.
