G-body-Wheel and tire discussion
Ok, time to start a dialogue now about wheel and tire combo for my car. I'd like to have this done by spring so please participate if you're in this for haul.
to start:
The car is currently sitting on the original wheels wrapped in 215/65r up front and 245/60r out back. Since the motor swap the tires are laughable in terms of traction.
The wheels are B-, they clean up nice but they need new stripes, have some hazing/surface rust but do clean up nice and turn some heads. I think a 17' wheel would look better but I want an "era correct" look. I wish 18" billet ssIII actually existed but I digress.
The tires are 12 years old. 3k miles put on from 02-05 (wreck) brought back to life in 2012 and 10k miles on it since then. No rot just too small at this point.
-I don't drive the car in any type of poor weather and longest trip I'll take before the front suspension is re-done and it has AC is less than 50 miles (Cecil county Drag way in Maryland!
). This is making me lead towards a more aggressive tread pattern.
Coppercutlass is running a 275 drag radial on a 7" tire with no issues, is that the max on a 7" wheel?
245/65r/15= 27.54 x 9.65
275/60/15= 27.99 x 10.83 (note this is a 60 aspect ratio)
I'll put up some pictures tomorrow.

Most tire manufacturers recommend a 7.5" min rim width for a P275-60-15. I ran them on 7" rims for years dating back to when they were a bias ply size of L60-15 with no issues. If you click on my Plymouth photos below, you can see that tire size on 7" rims there. Your looking at a difference of 1/4" on each side of the rim over the minimum size recommendations.
