New Wheels and Tires for 76 442

Hello, i am looking to replace my Olds Rallyes with a pair of Cragar SS wheels. teamed up with some Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/t tires in the rear. what i have on there now are Performer Radial's 235/70/15 in the front and back. i was wanted to go wider in the rear. i want it to be noticeable but not sticking out of the wheel wells. Now i am not sure what size rim or size tire i would order. i was looking at 255/60/15 for the Mickey Thompson's.. Would that be a noticeable difference? also taking any pointers.. i am trying to do a 70s street machine theme to my 76 442.. thanks.

Wheel & tire website

You need to check out this site for wheel and tire fitment. As far as what will fit your car, take some fender measurements with your current wheel/tire combo and use that as a baseline to go wider.

235/70-15s are about 28" in diameter, and frankly, pretty tall for that car. The 255/60-15s are an inch SMALLER in diameter. 275/60-15s would be about the same diameter as the 235/70s on the front.

so you are saying that 275/60-15s would be my best option for the rear?

The Rimsntires.com site allows you to compare 2 wheel/tire combinations. If you enter your current wheel and tire sizes into the boxes for Wheel #1, and then play with different combinations for Wheel #2, the website will display the differences between the 2 combos and tell you how much wider and taller the "new" combination is compared to your current wheel/tire setup
.
For example: a 235/70/15 is 28" tall and 9.3" wide, and 275/60/15 is also 28" tall, but 10.8" wide; on a 9" wide rim with the same backspacing, the 275 tire will be 0.8" closer to the shocks and suspension (on the back side of the tire) and 0.8" closer the the fender lip (on the outside of the tire). You can play with the backspacing to move the wheel/tire farther out to better fill the wheel well, or inward if you don't have the fender clearance.

Here's a screen shot of the website:

Glad I could help! Lord knows I wouldn't be half as far along with my project were it not for the help of folks on CO. What are your plans for the old SSIII rims? Are they in decent shape, do they have all the bezel rings, trim rings and center caps?
