Wheel tourque

Wheel tourque

Anyone know the wheel tourque for a 1963 Olds super 88 ?

TIGHT.

Nobody checked the torque on lug nuts on older cars. That came in with the Japanese, disc brakes, and alloy rims.

If you must know, though, the Service Manual says 70-85 ft-lbs.

Well, technically, it came in when hubs and rotors went 2 piece, since you can warp a rotor if not equally tightened.

And in other words the lugs on wheels install by the 300# man will be tighter than the lugs installed by the 120# lady!

Watch for LH threads on the LH side of the car too.
Typically stamped "L" on the end of the stud

Is not the '63 like 1962 in that the studs have left-hand threads so that they tighten as the wheel rotates? If that is so, is torque critical?
