taller tire
taller tire
Need help...1988 Cutlass Supreme RWD I want a taller tire not wider and I want it on a 14 inch wheel. At present I have 215 60- 14. What can I do to get a taller profile and not wider? This is just for the rear.
Out of curiosity, why are you opposed to wider tires?
Slim pickins for 14" tires these days. You might be able to find a 235/60-14 in your area. BFGoodrich and Cooper still make them. You might try Pep Boys, too. If you can't find those, you might be able to find a 225/70-14. They are slightly wider, but will be easier to find.

Why don't you just go with the original tire size if you want a taller thin tire? The OEM was 195/75/14. That's a tall thinner tire. This info was easy to find at the Tire Rack. 88 Cutlass used as source unit.
If this is for overall driveability in the snow, good luck with that. I found the easiest thing to do is stay with OEM sizing and change from all season to winter snow grips.
One more thing to think about. If you're running 60 series tires right now and you haven't changed your speedo gear, your actual speed and mileage will be wrong. Going back to OEM sizing will correct that.
Good luck.

And if you changed the profile down to a 60 series? It would be out. I have the exact same tire size as you on my 72 Cutlass S. For some reason, it's out by about 5 mph in the city (below 40mph), but pretty much dead on at highway speeds. Go figure?
How does gps figure into speedo reading? I get it: Good'ol Police Sergeant!!!
Anyway, that's not what this post was about. Just havin a few laughs. I think that snowballs442 is genuinely looking for a taller tire that was delivered with his car.
