Considering something out of the box for 14" tires
Putting on my flame proof underwear, know what to expect from CO. FYI, these General Grabber AT 27x8.5R14 tires are same price as the BFG Radial T/A. Unless I can get the Cooper Cobra 225/60R14 for $60 less each, showing that but maybe no stock. I will go General Grabber otherwise. I have changed the rear springs since I last had the 14" aluminum rims. This is the short 235/60R14. I think it will give a unique look.
Yes, 225/70R14, not the tiny 60 series. Too bad the Chinese didn't bring back the 235/70R14 in their BFG copy. Actually aggressive personality would be a better description. You American's seem to like that, throw mud in everyone face😀.

Well, back in the day, we did run snow tires on these cars. 😉
Personally I'm not a fan of the 4x4 look on cars.
The Chinese now have a 265/50R14 in a TA copy. They should have done a 235/70R14 instead. Other than the ribbed edge, they remind me of the old tread Dunlop GT Qualifer tread and are RWL in a 27" tall tire. Other than the insanely priced Coker tires, nothing else matches these tires dimension wise in a 14". It is really a shame Oldsmobile didn't offer these aluminum rims especially since they came out in 1987 in a 15" rim.
I agree, I like those wheels but the 14" is a problem. 265/50 will have a tiny outside diameter. Coker sells a 235/70-14, but it's stupid money.
100 percent. I was excited to see new 14" sizes till I saw their diameter, a 265/60R14 would have made more sense but still questionable even on a 7" wide rim. Junkyard Digs just put the General Grabber's on a mid 70's Ranchero, they don't look bad on it. If I can get the Cooper Cobra, I may go that way, keep them as one of my two spares. I should have left the BFG TA 225/70R14 on these rims, currently on the Pontiac rims. They are 2017, so I really do need to burn them off, coming up on 9 years old. They were about $100 cheaper per tire back then.
If you're looking for Generals, how about these? Good look -- aggressive, but nobody will mistake it for a snow tire.
I looked at them, about the same price as the Cooper Cobra. I actually have the black wall out on my Cooper Cobra, which looks great with the Cobra. I saw a 1979 Mercedes 6.9 with classic tread tires, almost identical to Grabber AT tread but black wall without the sidewall ribs. Honestly if there were no rock guard ribs, the Grabber AT would be a no brainer for our cars. Here is the black wall out Cooper Cobra 275/60R15 on a 10" rim, 2019 date, installed in 2020. I would move the 225/70R14 BFG TA's to the back, to test the new Edelbrock SB heads and roller cam for low end torque😀.

These days, I let price and availability sway my decisions. The General Grabber's didn't even show up in Canadian Tire's data base. Plus it was $240 each for those Grabber's AT and $236 for the 225/70R14 BFG Radial TA's
vs $176 each for the Cooper Cobra's. The General Altima's being $10 more for the pair, made me say nah too. So I ordered two 225/70R14 Cooper Cobra's supposedly available and here next week. I will definitely doing a side by side comparison of the BFG Radial TA's in the same size. The claim for height is 26.4" for the BFG and 26.25" for the Cooper Cobra's, in the same 225/70R14.
Those Iook good. I find them very comparable to the BFG Radial TA tires. But no brown letters and look much better with the black wall out. They used used to be within a couple of dollars of each other, now the BFG are $60 more each, this will be my last set of Radial TA tires because of it.
Here is a pic of mine when it was green and the stock springs in the back. It was 205/70R14 front and 225/70R14 rear in BFG TA's. I changed the rear springs after I put on the 275/60R15. Hoping the gap won't be too big now.
Cost piles up quickly for new tires, $30 each to install and balance, enviro fees and tax, just short of $485 for the pair. At least he didn't put weights on the outside of the rim. Car is in my garage and can't be moved till the new pushrods arrive. They look OK will have to see how I like them stance and traction wise. I can always put these on the front with the 275/60R15 Cooper Cobra's which have 3 years till they age out. The front tires are 2017 for the matching 14" steel rims are 2017 tires. Need to put on some real miles, the front tires are 2016 on the matching front rims so they are at that 10 year limit and will be garbage unfortunately next year. Problem with a car that isn't my long distance driver and sits in my garage for half the year, tires age out, not wear out. Never know, I still might get the General Grabber's for the back to keep the 14" aluminum rims and get a taller RWL tires.
